Move over NFL, there’s only one kick-off we truly love down here in Louisiana and it’s finally here.
This past weekend marked the official kickoff of Crawfish Season here in the Bayou State. Crawfish prices are holding nice and steady, according to Crawfish App co-founder Laney King.
Laney says, “You’re looking at about $5.99 a pound to go, more like $6.50 a pound if you’re going to be dining in, and if you want to boil with some friends for opening weekend, you’re probably going to pay about $100 to $125 a sack.”
The good news for Louisiana is compared to previous seasons, prices are starting at a normal level. Laney says prices for the opening weekend this year are down five percent from where they were in 2022.
Speaking on the wonderful weather ’round the state, Laney says, “This warm weather, this is so good for the crawfish. We should see an actual increase in the size which everybody gets really excited about.”
As we get closer to Easter, King believes prices will drop and crawfish will continue to get bigger and bigger.
